French Public Relations Agency Faces Gender Bias Lawsuit

A former employee is suing the giant French public relations agency Publicis Groupe SA for $100 million, claiming that the company systematically discriminated against women in pay and promotions.

The lawsuit relies on statistics to show that at Publicis women make up 70% of the PR staff but hold only 15% of the leadership positions. The case was filed in a US District Court in Manhattan and seeks class-action status. The former employee was a global healthcare director in the company's Boston division MSLGroup. The plaintiff says that she was unfairly terminated after taking a four month maternity leave, along with two other women who were also terminated after maternity leave. This lawsuit is just the latest of many accusing large companies of favoring men over women in the workplace, with Toshiba and Novartis being two of the most recent cases.

The best in Public Relations business were honored on Thursday evening by the Public Relation Society of America's Colorado Chapter at the Denver Marriott City Center. The Night's biggest winner were the Denver based communications counseling firm, Peter Webb Public Relations (Webb PR) with six gold and one silver. Webb PR was followed by two other Denver based public relations firms, Linhart PR & Pure Brand Communications, with three gold and two gold & a silver respectively. Night's other notable winners included Philosophy Communications with one gold and three silver & Johnston Wells with one gold and one silver.

The Public Relation Society of America's top Award, the 'The Grand Gold Pick', was awarded to the Denver Art Museum for their campaign – "Rolling Out The Red Carpet: King Tut's Denver Debut"
