A former employee is suing the giant French public relations agency Publicis Groupe SA for $100 million, claiming that the company systematically discriminated against women in pay and promotions.
The lawsuit relies on statistics to show that at Publicis women make up 70% of the PR staff but hold only 15% of the leadership positions. The case was filed in a US District Court in Manhattan and seeks class-action status. The former employee was a global healthcare director in the company's Boston division MSLGroup. The plaintiff says that she was unfairly terminated after taking a four month maternity leave, along with two other women who were also terminated after maternity leave. This lawsuit is just the latest of many accusing large companies of favoring men over women in the workplace, with Toshiba and Novartis being two of the most recent cases.
